Recognition of Academic Documents

Recognising your Australian tertiary education documents in Spain

If you wish to have your Australian tertiary education documents recognised in Spain, you are required to obtain the Apostille of the Hague stamp on your original document(s). You can do this in:

  • Australia, by lodging your application through your closest Passport Office or by mail. Lodgement at the Australian Passport Office is in person and by appointment only. You can make an appointment by phoning 1300 935 260. Please ensure you have the original documentation you wish to have recognised, or

  • Spain, at the Australian Embassy in Madrid. Please note the Honorary Consulate in Barcelona is unable to provide this service. The issuing of an Apostille at the Embassy is in person and by appointment only. Please visit our Notarial Acts page for further information.


Once you have obtained the Apostille stamp on the document(s), you will need to contact the National Academic Recognition Information Centres in the European Union in Spain (NARIC) (website available in English). NARIC provides assistance with the process of recognising your title in Spain. The Embassy does not provide this service.

Recognising your Spanish tertiary education documents in Australia

If you wish to have your Spanish tertiary education documents recognised in Australia, you are required to obtain the Apostille stamp from the Spanish Authorities. Please visit the Ministry of Justice website for further information (website available in English).

Once you have obtained the Apostille stamp on the document(s), you have to locate the Australian Assessing Authority in charge of your particular profession. You can locate your respective Assessing Authority by consulting the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
