Child - Renewal application

Create an account on the Australian Passports Office website and follow the prompts to generate a form. Once you have answered all the questions, you will be able to download and print the form.

You will need three Australian standard passport photos. Please refer to the photo guidelines.

Do not take your photos at a photo booth, go to a photographer. Please discuss the requirements with the photographer and request the unedited digital format of your picture along with the hard copies.

Photos must be less than six months old.

Do not attach the photos to to the form with paperclips, staples, tape or glue. Leave them loose and we will affix them to your form.

The Guarantor must sign Section 11 of the application form and write on the back of one of your child's photos: “This is a true photo of [child’s full name]”, and then sign underneath.

Your Guarantor must:

• Be over 18 years old
• Not be related to the child by birth or marriage
• Know the child for at least a year
• Not live at the same address as the child

The Guarantor can be one of two types:

• Type A: an Australian citizen
• Type B: a foreign citizen that holds one of the approved professions

Both parents will need to complete Sections 12 to 15  of the application form to provide parental consent:

• All sections on the page must be completed. Ensure the parents’ current names in Sections 13B and 14B have been completed – you can add this by hand if you did not include it in the electronic version of the form
• Both parents must sign in front of a witness. The witness must be over 18 years old, not related to you or the child and not living at your address 
• There must be no alterations to the signatures or dates

Please note, it is not necessary for both parents to sign in front of the same witness. Please read the page on parental consent for more information.

One parent must sign and date the declaration at Section 17. Make sure:

• There are no alterations to your signature or date
• The date is no more than six months prior to lodgement

Children over 10 years old must sign the form at Section 18 using black pen. Make sure:

• The signature is completely inside the box
• There are no alterations to the signature

We require copies of both parents' valid photo ID and proof of address. These do not need to be certified.

Proof of address may be:

• Copy of your Spanish DNI or NIE with your current address on the back
• Empadronamiento certificate (this does not need to be translated)
• Utility bill or bank statement

Please do not send us any original documents.

Print out and complete our payment authorisation form (PDF). We accept debit or credit cards, Visa or MasterCard. When we receive your application, we will charge your card. 

Please consult the passport fees and remember to include the appropriate courier fee to send you your new passport if you don't want to collect it in Madrid. Please note that we can only send passports within Spain and Andorra.

Send us your application with all the below:

• Application form
• Three photos
• Copies of both parents valid photo ID
• Proof of address for both parents
• Payment form

Do NOT send us your child's current/expired passport or any other original documents. You may still use your child's current passport until you receive the new one.

When you’ve completed your application, send it by registered post or courier to our address below:

It is important that you:

• do NOT fold your application
• do NOT use staples, paper clips or anything else that may damage your photos

Please allow 6 weeks for your application to be processed. Some applications may be processed faster but we cannot guarantee anything less than 6 weeks.

Once we receive your new passport, we will send it via DHL courier to your address, if you selected the courier option. If you indicated that you want to collect your passport at the embassy, we will email you to arrange an appointment for collection.

Please note, your child's old Australian passport will be automatically cancelled 30 days after the new one is issued. Using a cancelled travel document may be a criminal offence under subsection 32(1) of the Australian Passports Act 2005. This attracts penalties of imprisonment or a fine or both. If you will be out of the country for longer than 30 days after your new passport is due to arrive, please let us know in advance.

There is no expedited service for applications lodged overseas, this service is only available within Australia.

If you need your child's passport in less than six weeks, you may be eligible for an Emergency Passport. Evidence of urgency (i.e. travel itinerary, visa appointment confirmation or letter from your employer) is required.
